sometimes, i scare myself.

I just finished watching The Notebook. I’ve seen it a couple of times but it still gets me in the heart. I cried. Again. This movie just makes me wanna fall in love again. One of my all time favorite films and novel, Nicholas Sparks strikes again. I’m not so sure na if I read this, but I’m pretty sure they didn’t die in the novel, or was it in The Wedding? Hmmm.. But I really liked the ending of the movie more, I love it that they both died holding hands in a bed, and Allie remembered  just before they died, it was like they picked the perfect moment to let go of their breaths…

I found the old Allie and Noah sweeter. I wish that in my old age my husband-to-be and I will stay as sweet as them, never lose the love we felt for each other 30, 50 or 70 years after we got married. Because nowadays whenever I see an old couple, I don’t see any love, all I see was a lifetime of commitment, no love, no feelings.

I really love this part:

Duke: I was just going for a walk. I couldn’t sleep.
Nurse Esther: You were going to see Miss Allie. Now you know you’re not allowed. It’s against the rules. You go back to your room. And as for me, I’m going downstairs to get a cup of coffee and won’t be back for a while. Stay out of trouble.

HAHAHA! The nurse rox! She broke the rules for love. Wooot~ I wanna be like her.:)

The movie is also a portrayal of a typical nursing home, with all the geriatric patients, some left unloved, with only nurses and physicians around to care for them. I had a thought months ago(after I attended Sir Gelo’s ANPF seminar about geria) that I wanna be a Gerontology Nurse so that I could love my unloved patients in their uhh.. degenerative times.;)

So, let us all fall in love again, with The Notebook.

This time I’ll talk about HUMAN HEALTH. Puro na lang ako hamster this past few days eh.:)) I was in church earlier, with an hour sitting, my butt hurts from sitting too still, I crossed my legs, now I felt awkward, para bang hindi na ako sanay na nagccross legs, and I remembered why. Ever since we had that lecture in NCM that crossing your legs promotes varicose veins I never did croiss my legs anymore.

I’ll make use of what I learned in NCM about varicosities. Make myself useful even in a little random way.:D

What is varicose veins?

Varicose veins are enlarged, swollen blood vessels that are raised above the surface of the skin. They can appear as a dark purple or blue that bulges on the skin. Usually more visible in people who have a white complexion.

What is the reason behind varicose veins?

If you remember your anatomy, there are 3 major types of Blood vessels, namely, arteries, veins and capillaries. Arteries carry oxygenated blood, capillaries allow the exchange of water and chemicals between blood and tissues, and veins carry deoxygenated blood. Veins have what you call valves, so as to help in the pumping of the blood back to the heart. Notice that varicosities are usually common in the lower extremities? That is all thanks to the pull of gravity. The leaflets of the valves do not meet properly and then the blood is then pulled backward.

Prevention:

• Avoid crossing legs, they promote varicosities.
• Avoid standing for too long, if it cannot be avoided, elevate legs for 10-30 mins after prolonged standing so that blood will flow away form your veins and return to your heart. NOTE: elevate legs higher than your heart.
• Eat food rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants contain ‘bioflavonoids’ that can strengthen the walls of your veins
• Exercise
• Wear compression stocking or stockings that are specifically designed for prevention of varicose veins

Treatment:

Invasive procedures are now done to surgically remove varicosities. Laser, schlerotherapy are some of the procedure done for removal of varicose veins.

!IMPORTANT!

Do not massage site of varicosities, it may lead to a blood clot loosening and form an embolus.

My last few posts were about my bestfriend’s hamsters, Sin, Pami and Only.

Recap:

Sin died because he was bitten by a cat.

Pami gave birth and ate some of her babies.

Only is Pami’s baby, he/she got his/her name because he/she is the only surviving baby.

Here’s the thing; Pami is now dead.:( Sidney’s gotta BIG case of hamster blues.

Earlier this evening I got a text message from Sidney saying that when he got home, he was shocked to suddenly find his hamster, Pami, not moving and curled to a ball. Shaking the cage, he affirmed that Pami, is indeed dead. Now, the real problem begins, remember Only? Only is only 9 days old as of now, without his/her mother how can he/she survive??:((

I wanted to take care of Only but I can’t do him/her any good pa. I have Syrian hamsters and Only is a Siberian hamster, besides, my female hamster I’m not sure if she’s pregnant or what, if not then she cannot produce milk for Only. But that’s the least of our problems. We’ve done researching on how to take care of baby hamsters without their mother and well.. errr… the articles i’ve read weren’t that reassuring. :(

Some of the useful stuff I’ve read on How To Take Care of Baby Hamsters Without a Mother:

• give them milk(50% evaporated milk, 50% warm water) in an eyedropper, an eyedropper is small enough for the already too small hamster mouth, if bigger than an eyedropper, it can drown. Give them milk q1hr(every hour) around the clock.
• grate some carrots or cucumber or any hydrating veggies, and leave them lying around the cage, hamsters without a mother will turn to eat solid foods and adapt to a motherless environment.
• if you have a heatpad then it’s time to use it for the baby hamster, if you do not have a so-called heatpad then use a droplight, or a study lamp to warm your hamster. Make sure it does not make them too toasty or it might dehydrate the baby.
• for a good protein source, have boiled egg whites lie around the cage, DO NOT INCLUDE EGG YOLK, VERY HIGH IN CHOLESTEROL.
• Consult a vet if unsure of what to do or if funds permit you to do so.:)

These are some of the useful tips I have researched. I really hope that Only will survive.:( We were planning a party pa naman for him, just earlier this morning when I was in my duty, Sid and I were exchanging ideas on how to celebrate Only’s binyag. And now we’re having problems on how to keep him alive. :(

HANG ON ONLY! YOU CAN DO IT~

I was finding a movie in ovguide to watch and I accidentally stumbled upon a search result called: Resident Evil 4: Afterlife

I suddenly became excited! And it seems that it will be shown on September of this year, if I’m not mistaken. But rumors had it that it will be moved 2011. I hope not, I’m too excited to be able to wait that long. No official trailer has been released but I promise that as soon as it is released I will share it to you.

I have been a RE fanatic since it hit as a blockbuster PS game in 1999 or 2000? If I remember it clearly, I was in 2nd grade when my father first played it. Each time he would play the game, me and my brother would watch him like we were watching a TV series. Tanda ko pa noon, laging after lunch ang laro ni Tatay. Pagkatapos kumain eh diretso na kaming tatlo sa kwarto para maglaro.

The game is pretty exciting. It is about a virus that spread in Raccoon City and infected individuals became zombies. The already infected will be able to infect the uninfected by means of its saliva and bodily secretions, by means of a bite or even scratch.

Resident Evil 2 was the hit blockbuster game. More than the 1st released RE, RE2 was more popular to the gaming community.

Even though RE: Afterlife is already the 4th movie, I hope that it will still not let me down. RE: Extinction was a bit of a let-down to me, it failed to give information about the existing survivors from RE: Apocalypse, like Jill, LJ and Ashley. I was also disappointed when the first RE movie was released. Because the main protagonist was not from the original games. I expected that the protagonist will take form of Leon, Jill, Claire, Chris, or Carlos. Badtrip na badtrip ako nung napanood koh ung Extinction, bigla na lang nawala sa eksena si Jill, paborito ko pa naman siya! XD

Anyway, let us all support the 4th movie and the games.:) RE still rocks my boat!

MY VIRGIN EYES! *covers eyes* as if! XD

I just got home and my hamsters gave me a very HUGE surprise! Here’s the whole story:

I got home and I immediately attended to my hamsters. I brought Thursday out(the XY) and babied him. I was all “baby booboo! awww… you’re so cute!” for about 10-15 mins? And I put him down in the aquarium and placed sunflower seeds in their food bowl. As usual, it’s like they know I’m going to feed them na. Psychic ata tong mga toh, coz they get restless and nagkakagulo. They even go to the food bowl na even if there isn’t any food in it pa. So ako naman si gaga, like the usual, inaasar ko pa cla. I make maracas out of the food container and that even makes them go ga-ga. XD i fed them and they put them into them pouches they have and were busy eating. I was watching them eat. After that I observed them even more. Then something unsuitable for young eyes was seen!

Sunday was minding her own business when suddenly Thursday began following her around sniffing her behind. Now, from my research last night, when a XY hamster sniffs the butt of a XX hamster, it means that they are in heat and will mate. So Thursday was all *sniff**sniff* to Sunday and became too aggressive! Dinamba niya si SUnday and that made her go like on her back. Sinuway ko si Thursday. He stopped momentarily and Sunday got away. Di pa nakakalayo eh ayan na naman si Thursday! And this scene I will never forget! He just attacked Sunday from behind and began sexing her! UGH! Twas not a scene to watch. I felt like I was watching porno. XD parang nirarape si Sunday. Tumigil si Thursday and Sunday went inside their house, Thursday followed. And moment later there was a ruckus inside the house! Alam na. XD

Waaaa! I swear! Ang high ng libido ni Thursday! Kawawa naman si Sunday. Quickly, I got Thursday out of the cage, I told him no more sex for now because it might jeopardize Sunday’s pregnancy. Assuming lang ako, haha. Well, all the signs are there.

I gave Thursday the “TIME-OUT”. I put him in the hamster ball and let him roam around the house, cool off his heat. XD Right now, as I write this, he is running around in the room.

I will never ever forget that scene. They were like dogs. They do it Doggy style. XD and so fast. Waaa!

I woke up this morning at 6:30 a.m. Routinely, I check my fone for messages and the time. I received a text mssg from Sidney saying that, once again, Sin has escaped his temporary shoebox home. Like I have read, hamsters are very good escape artists. Sid said that when he woke up he found the holey shoebox with a huge hole which could be a passageway for Sin to the outside world. The little critter obviously used his teeny teeth in making a huge hole out of the small holes. And with no such luck, Sid had to go to school without finding Sin.

When I read his message it really bothered me, I mean can a hamster escape twice and be found twice? I know I’m being pessimistic but we can never get our hopes up. :( Tapos sabi pa ni Sid pag gising niya eh bukas na daw yung pinto ng bahay nila, eh after turning the house upside down eh di pa daw niya nahanap si Sin. With our fingers crossed we hoped that the cats lurking around the Pucan’s residence didn’t get to him first.

While I was taking notes and attentively listening(talaga lang ah) to my Pharmacology prof, Sir Gonzales, I received yet again a message from Sid. He said that he was to forward me a message also from his cousin. The message was about Sin.

The message contained both good and bad news.

Good news was that Sin was found.

Bad news was that he was Sin in the mouth of a cat.

Apparently, the cat did get to him. The cat bit Sin. Sin was still alive after shooing away the cat but seems weak. Minutes later, he died.

Sid was devastated. All of our messages to one another contained one or two T.T Much as everyone else, he was affected the most. Sin was his pet. He have formed a bond with him. Though Sin was not a pot for more than a week, the time spent was still there. And nothing can ever erase the feelings shared. Sabi pa ni Sid, plinano na daw siguro ng Diyos na kunin si Sin para daw hindi na sila pareho mahirapan. At sabi niya eh kung mas lalo pa daw tumagal si Sin sa kanya at nangyari ito ay mas lalo siyang malulungkot.

Both of us miss Sin already. While taking notes, I scribbled on top of my notes a “In loving memory of Asin aka Sin”. I even talked about it to my seatmates during break. They all sympathizes to the loss. Kahit na may kasama tawanan. Empf.

It occurred to me that I’m not ready yet to lose Thursday or Sunday. If ever that was to happen to me right now, I would shed a river of tears, no, an ocean’s worth of tears! I love my pets very much. I’d die if they died.

Sin was buried under a tree. Sid asked his brothers to wait until he comes back from school. I was touched very much when Sid said that he was at least happy na kahit papano eh sa huling sandali bago man lang niya ilibing si Sin eh nakita at nahaplos man lang niya ito. Awww.:(( now, i’m crying. He took a picture of it pa. Sabi niya para lang daw natutlog si Sin dun sa Picture. Waaaa! Tae, umiiyak na talaga ako. Naiimagine ko yung scene. I said to Sid that he should also sing to him our songs of the dead. BUt he was too shy to do so in public. He said that he sang to his thoughts. He also said that wherever Sin may be, may he guide them and look down to Sid, Pami and Only.
